3 Back Stretching Exercises for a Healthy and Straight Back

Back stretching exercises help maintain the health and safety of muscles, bones, joints and even nerves. In addition, they support the spine in terms of strength, flexibility and balance, making it less susceptible to health problems, such as muscle and joint pain, or injuries. Not only that, but they give the body a healthy and harmonious appearance, which may increase one’s self-confidence.

Here are three effective stretches for your back:

1. Cat-Cow Stretch:
   – Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position.
   – Inhale as you arch your back, dropping your belly towards the floor and lifting your head and tailbone towards the ceiling (Cow Pose).
   – Exhale as you round your back, tucking your chin to your chest and drawing your tailbone towards your knees (Cat Pose).
   – Repeat this sequence for 1-2 minutes, moving with your breath.

2. Child’s Pose:
   – Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position.
   – Sit back onto your heels while stretching your arms forward, lowering your chest towards the ground.
   – Keep your forehead resting on the floor and take deep breaths.
   – Hold this position for 1-2 minutes, allowing your back to relax and stretch.

3. Seated Forward Fold:
   – Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight in front of you.
   – Inhale and lengthen your spine, reaching your arms overhead.
   – Exhale as you fold forward from your hips, reaching for your feet or shins.
   – Keep your spine as straight as possible and hold the stretch for 1-2 minutes, breathing deeply.
